Plant Description From the original Boysenberry which is a mix of Raspberry, Blackberry, Loganberry and Dewberry. The berry is deep maroon color, purple and red and is large and sweet. The Boysenberry had it origins when George Darrow and Walter Knott tracked it down in overgrown California farm owned by Rudolph Boysen. Mr. Knott brought the vine back to health and started making jams and pastries out the fruit which is now a national brand. The vine is cold tolerant and can be grown in zones 6-9. How to Grow Most all edible plants grow well in Full Sun, a little shade won’t hurt. Boysenberry Plants can be planted in most healthy soils with normal pH to lower pH range 6-8. I recommend growing in a organic potting soil with fertilizer already added for your starter plant and then mix up your favorite type of medium when ready to be fully planted. Let your soil almost dry out then water 2-3 times a week when temperatures are below 80 degrees. When temperatures are above 80 degrees water daily to every other day.
